I tell all of my first-time mamas that birth is the only blind date you’ll ever go on where you already know you’ll meet the love of your life.
There is nothing quite like hearing that first cry.
Watching your partner become a parent.
Counting ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes.
Feeling your baby’s warm little body on your chest for the very first time.
Those first hours are unlike anything else.
Everything is still so new.
Your baby still has that fresh newborn curl. Their tiny yawns, wrinkly hands, flaky little feet, and sleepy stretches will all change before you know it.
And while everyone warns you that babies grow fast, nothing prepares you for just how quickly those first memories begin to blur together.
The newborn fog is real.
A Fresh 48 session gives you something to hold onto.
These sessions take place right in your hospital room during the first day or two after birth. There’s no elaborate posing, no pressure to smile at the camera, and no expectation that everything looks perfect.
Instead, we simply preserve the beginning of your family’s newest chapter exactly as it happened.
Years from now, these photographs won’t just remind you what your baby looked like.
They’ll remind you how it felt.
What to Pack for Your Fresh 48 Session
This is probably one of the questions I get asked the most.
“What should I bring?”
Honestly?
Not much.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably packed and repacked your hospital bag more times than you’d like to admit. It’s easy to start wondering if you need a whole extra suitcase just for pictures.
You don’t.
Bring your baby.
Bring your partner.
If older siblings are coming to meet the baby, I’d love to include them too.
If you’ve picked out a special swaddle, a tiny bow, a knit bonnet, or the outfit you’ve been dreaming about bringing your baby home in, toss it in your bag.
If not…
Don’t stress.
Some of my favorite Fresh 48 images have been made with nothing more than a white hospital blanket and two parents who couldn’t stop staring at their baby.
Because here’s the truth.
Years from now, you won’t be thinking about whether your robe matched your baby’s swaddle.
You’ll remember how your husband kept refilling your water cup while you learned to nurse.
You’ll remember how tiny your baby’s fingers felt wrapped around yours.
You’ll remember laughing because neither of you knew how to change a diaper yet.
Those are the memories worth preserving.
How to Prepare for Your Fresh 48 Session
Whether you’re delivering at North Baldwin Infirmary, Thomas Hospital, Mobile Infirmary, USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital, or Baldwin Health, preparing for your session is wonderfully simple.
You don’t need a spotless hospital room.
You don’t need a full face of makeup.
You don’t need to fit back into your pre-pregnancy jeans.
You just need to be present.
If you’re feeling up to it, brush your hair, slip into a comfortable robe or button-up pajama set, and cuddle your baby.
That’s enough.
I work around feedings.
We pause for diaper changes.
If a nurse comes in, we simply take a break.
Nothing about these sessions is rushed because newborn life isn’t meant to be rushed.
When Should You Book Your Fresh 48 Session?
The best time to reserve your Fresh 48 session is while you’re still pregnant.
Most of my families book during the second or early third trimester so that your due date is already on my calendar.
Once labor begins, all you have to do is send me a quick text.
After your baby arrives and you’ve had a little time to rest, we’ll choose a time that works best during your hospital stay.
Babies rarely arrive exactly on schedule, so flexibility is simply part of the process.
Common Questions About Fresh 48 Sessions
What if I have a C-section?
That’s perfectly okay. Your birth story is still beautiful, and we’ll move at whatever pace feels comfortable for you.
What if my baby needs extra medical care?
Your baby’s health always comes first. If your little one spends time in the NICU or needs additional monitoring, we’ll talk through your options together. Sometimes we adjust the timing, and sometimes those moments become an especially meaningful part of your family’s story.
Can siblings and grandparents be included?
Absolutely! As long as your hospital’s visitor policies allow it, I’d love to include the people who are celebrating this new little life with you.
What if my room isn’t pretty?
Can I let you in on a little secret?
Not one parent has ever looked back at their Fresh 48 gallery and said, “I wish the hospital bed wasn’t in the background.”
They look at their baby’s face.

They remember the feeling.
