Hey mama, and welcome to my little slice of internet heaven. My name is Molly, and I am the photographer for moms, specializing in motherhood, maternity, and newborn photography.
Bringing a new baby into the world is one of the most emotional and meaningful seasons of your life. It can also feel exhausting and overwhelming, especially for first time mothers. That’s exactly why I’ve created this little space of internet: a space for connection, reassurance, and helpful information you can come back to whenever you need it.
Expecting mothers often have hundreds of questions, and just as many answers — which can quickly become overwhelming. I’ve been there myself, stuck in the never-ending cycle of Googling “best pediatrician” or “how to potty train,” only to feel more anxious by the sheer amount of information coming at me.
So often, we get caught up in researching and planning that we forget to pause, take a breath, and truly soak in the season we’re in. We forget how fleeting it is — and how important it is to document it. That’s why I’m writing this blog. Think of it as a gentle reminder not to overlook your photo sessions, especially your newborn photography session, during this tender time.
As a professional newborn photographer serving the Gulf Coast — from Mobile, AL and Baldwin County to Pensacola, FL and as far west as Biloxi and Gulfport, MS — I answer these questions every single week. Below, I’m sharing honest, experience-based answers to the most common questions parents ask when searching for a newborn photographer.

You can truly book your newborn photographer as soon as you feel ready — but I typically recommend booking once you enter your second trimester.
At that point, things often feel a little more settled, and it gives us plenty of time to plan without any pressure. Newborn sessions are booked based on your due date, not a fixed calendar date. Your official session date is confirmed once your baby has arrived earth side.
This flexibility is important because birth rarely follows a perfect timeline. Babies can arrive early or late, and sometimes there are unexpected factors like longer hospital stays or extra recovery time. Booking this way allows space for all of that — so you’re never rushed and baby’s well-being always comes first.
For Gulf Coast families, especially those traveling from surrounding areas like Baldwin County, Escambia County, or Mississippi’s coast, early booking also allows for easier scheduling and coordination.
Already had your baby and didn’t book yet? Don’t panic. Some photographers (myself included) may still have last-minute openings — it’s always worth reaching out.

While you’ll often hear that newborn photos should happen within the first two weeks, my personal ideal window is the third week of life — between 14 and 21 days old.
By this point:
This timing allows for a calmer, more enjoyable experience — one where we can move slowly, take breaks as needed, and create images that feel natural and unforced.
Of course, every baby is different. Some need a little extra time, some arrive earlier than expected, and some prefer to stay wide awake. A flexible, baby-led approach is always the priority.
Most parents schedule their newborn session within the first two weeks after birth, but planning starts well before that.
Here’s how it usually works:
This approach allows flexibility while still prioritizing baby’s safety, comfort, and well-being.

Choosing a newborn photographer is about more than loving their images — it’s about trust, comfort, and feeling supported during a vulnerable season.
When searching for a newborn photographer in Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, or anywhere along the Gulf Coast, here are a few things that truly matter:
Newborn photography requires hands-on experience, patience, and a deep understanding of infant safety. Look for photographers who, like myself, specialize in newborn work and can confidently handle babies with the upmost care, as your baby’s safety should always be priority.
The best newborn photographers guide you through everything — from what to wear, to how to prepare baby, to what happens if baby needs breaks (spoiler: they always do).
Pay close attention to how past clients describe how they felt. Feeling calm, cared for, and reassured is just as important as loving the final images.
Your baby’s comfort, and your comfort as a new mother, should always come first in priorities. Yes, beautiful photos are so important to me (and to you), but your health and your baby’s health is even more important and always will be!

Newborn photos aren’t just about perfected portraits. They’re about preserving a season that is fleeting, tender, and deeply meaningful. It’s about documenting the way you feel in this chapter of your life.
Choosing a newborn photographer who prioritizes safety, flexibility, and a calm, supportive experience allows you to stay present — even in the middle of exhaustion.
