Hello mamas! Welcome to my blog, where I strive to give moms in the Baldwin County area a whole system of valuable information, words of wisdom and encouragement, and connections to other professionals you may or may not need in your motherhood journey. Today, I want to introduce you to a very kind woman, a Daphne, AL birth doula.
Asia and I met at a women’s networking event, and she truly showcased the epitome of strength and confidence. I hope you find this Q&A with a Daphne, AL Birth Doula to be informational and valuable! The following questions were asked, and these were her answers:
Who are you?
“I’m Asia Scott, a birth doula, birth educator, and infertility support specialist. My passion lies in supporting birthing women and those trying to conceive in Baldwin County and the surrounding areas.”
What do you do?
“I provide comprehensive care for birthing women, helping them through the journey of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. In addition to being a birth doula, I offer birth education and support for women dealing with infertility.”
Tell us how you got into your career.
“My first birth was a nightmare, and I almost lost my life. When I got pregnant with my second, I was determined to have a different experience. I studied, and with my mom and husband acting as my doulas, I had a much better birth. These contrasting experiences, one difficult and one empowering, inspired me to become a doula. I wanted every mama to have the chance for a good birth experience, just like I did with my second.”
What sets you apart from other doulas in the area?
“My birth package is pretty awesome! Once I’m hired, I offer two prenatal visits, birth planning assistance, a nesting party, labor and birth support, initial breastfeeding support, a gourmet victory meal for the family, one postnatal visit, and birth processing. I go the extra mile to ensure every mama feels supported throughout her journey.”
Do you have a successful story you could share?
“Recently, I supported a third-time mom who achieved a fully unmedicated birth after two previous c-sections. Her story is a true success and shows how powerful support and preparation can be for a positive birth experience.”
Are there any other medical professionals you work closely with?
“Yes, depending on my client’s needs, I have recommendations for midwives, 4th-trimester support, chiropractors, and various therapies. I aim to offer a seamless experience by connecting my clients with trusted professionals in the area.”
Do you have any OBGYN or hospital recommendations?
“Not at the moment, but I’m always open to helping my clients find the right professionals for their specific needs.”
What is the pregnancy and postpartum journey like with your support?
“The journey with me is seamless. I spend a great deal of time educating mamas about pregnancy, birth, nutrition, and postpartum care. Without a doula, many women feel lost or unsupported during these crucial moments. I’m there to guide them, offer emotional and physical support, and ensure they have the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.”
Are there any misconceptions on doulas that you’d like to clear up?
“Yes, one of the biggest misconceptions is that doulas are midwives. We are not midwives; we care for the mama during this transitional time. While everyone holds the baby, we “hold” the mama!”
When looking to hire a doula, what should someone look for or ask about?
“Ask all the questions—even the hard ones! You want someone who is kind, loving, compassionate, and who will listen to you and respond in a positive, timely manner. Look for someone who knows their stuff, who can educate you on physiological birth, and who will motivate you to achieve the best outcome possible.”
How can someone contact you if they are interested in having you as their doula?
“You can call or text me at 251-281-8138. I’m always happy to connect with new mamas and support them on this amazing journey. My website is https://genesisdoulaservice.com/“
