Hello! Welcome to my little slice of internet heaven. My name is Molly, and if we haven’t met yet… well, I am about to become your absolute favorite photographer if you are a woman and a mother. Here at Deep Roots Photography, I specialize in photographing women in one of the most special chapters of their lives – motherhood. I am known for my high-end maternity and newborn portraiture, and my motherhood sessions.
What some people don’t know is I also photograph empowerment sessions. But what is an empowerment session? Who is that for? Do you even need one?
That’s exactly what this blog is about – what an empowerment session looks like with me here on the Gulf Coast.
Well, it’s a lot like a boudoir session. In fact, some will actually call it a boudoir session.
There’s one main difference – you don’t have to get naked to feel powerful at an empowerment session.
You can if you want to. I will actually encourage it, because there is nothing more powerful than a woman who is confident in her own skin.
But the point isn’t how much skin you are showing, or how seductive you can look.
The point is how you feel when you see yourself.
Do you see a gorgeous woman, worth more than gold?
Do you see a hard loving mother, who needs a little time for herself?
You, probably.
If you’ve ever put your husband, or children before yourself then, yes… absolutely YOU.
If you’ve ever been cheated on, left, or unappreciated – then hell yeah, book the session for yourself.
If you’ve spent years pouring every ounce of yourself into your family, or into your career, to look up and realize you’ve forgotten what it feels like to do something simply because you want to, definitely this session is for you.
Maybe you’ve lost weight.
Gained weight.
Maybe you got engaged, or about to say I Do.
Maybe you’ve had babies.
Maybe you’ve been going through infertility.
Perhaps your body has changed over the last ten years.
Perhaps you finally got that degree, or job promotion.
Maybe you survived something you thought would kill you…
Cancer. Divorce. Loss of someone important to you.
Or maybe you haven’t had a dramatic season at all, and you want to be proactive about loving yourself genuinely. That’s good too. You don’t have to wait for a big, dramatic moment.

That’s what they look like.
And they feel like hanging out with your bestie.
These sessions are so much fun. It’s pretty often for my clients (especially ones who haven’t worked with me before) to come in feeling a little shy, a little bashful.
But by the end of the session we are cracking jokes, laughing, swapping stories, and all around feel good about being a woman.
An empowerment session is meant to show you your strengths.
Posing isn’t a strength, okay? I don’t work with professional models; I work with real women and real mothers.
You don’t have to know how to pose, because I know how to pose you.
I know how to bring out those gorgeous curves, how to light your beautiful face, and how to show off your personality.
It’s not about having a perfect body, or the tiniest waist. It’s about seeing yourself for just how beautiful and powerful you are.
Women are badass, okay? Sometimes we just need a little help to see that, to feel that.
My photography is deeply rooted in the fine-art and editorial world, which means I play with a lot of light and a lot of empty space.
I don’t fill my portraits with business, with props, or with trends.
I focus on the beautiful beings I am photographing – which is you, I hope.
Without a better way to explain it; it’s as if my photographs breathe.
Your eye will naturally be drawn to the subject (that’s you). The light, the shadows, the negative space, and the compositions are all chosen and perfected to compliment your body and personality.
You are the subject. And that’s the whole heart of my sessions.
I don’t turn you into someone else, or photoshop you until you look like plastic. I mean this with the most respect… when you look at your images and then look at yourself in the mirror you will say “Wow! That IS me!”
You are art.
My studio serves women throughout Mobile, Baldwin County, South Alabama and the Gulf Coast, including clients traveling from Gulf Shores, Fairhope, Daphne, Foley and Pensacola. I also welcome women willing to make the drive from farther along the Gulf Coast.
I am located in the heart of Baldwin County, tucked away from the bustling noise of the city.

I began photographing empowering sessions after experience the feelings myself.
I knew what the studies say – I’ve read the blog about the decreased rate of depression in women with breast cancer who had a session vs. the one’s who didn’t.
But experiencing it for myself was an out-of-this-world experience that I would do a million times over.
