10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

I love connecting with people, and one of the best ways to do that is by sharing a more about myself. Here are 10 fun and possibly quirky things you may not know about me!

Hey, I’m Molly. Welcome to Deep Roots Photography’s blog. I do my best to provide as much value as possible to my mama clients. If you have any questions, please reach out.

1. I got engaged after 5 months of dating and had a 3-month engagement.
Yep, when you know, you know! It felt right from the start, and we’ve never looked back since. We met in August, got engaged in January, and said “I do” in April. I was only 21 years old at the time, and there’s only one thing I might would change about the whole thing. I might (put a big emphasis on might) have had a smaller and more intimate wedding experience and ditched the whole bridesmaid and groomsmen lineup. Not because I didn’t love everyone in my wedding party, but because we could’ve spent that extra time and money on things a bit more intimate to us.

2. I have 20 nieces and nephews – and I’m also a great-aunt!
Family is everything to me and being surrounded by my family. My family has what I like to call “birthday season”. It’s this time in the year where we are with family literally every weekend because it’s someone’s birthday every week, and YES we absolutely have to celebrate every one of them.

3. Heights terrify me.
Oddly, I’ve always thought mountain climbing would be fun and exciting. But… it will never happen for me. I can’t even look off of a balcony of a top story apartment without getting nervous. I did, however, go parasailing on my honeymoon and it was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be. I found it peaceful. I will definitely do that again, if I ever find myself back in the Bahamas.

4. I’ve been diabetic since 1999.
Managing diabetes has been part of my life for so long, it’s second nature now. It has definitely shaped the way my life is lived. It’s made all of my life milestones a touch different than an average person’s. I purchased my wedding dressed based around where I could store my insulin pump. Then, we had our children based on what all of the tests said. It’s taught me a lot of good things too, like how to truly care for myself and how to prioritize family. I’m so thankful for modern medicine. It’s crazy to me that just 100 years ago I would have never seen the age of 4.

5. Waking up early in the morning is my biggest struggle.
No matter how hard I try, early mornings just aren’t for me. If it’s before sunrise, you won’t see me. And if I haven’t had a cup of coffee, you won’t hear from me. If my family ever has to get up and get going, my husband knows to have a pot of coffee made before I roll out of the bed, and he knows not to even look at me before I drink it. I don’t mean to be rude, but my brain just doesn’t function at that time of day. I have tried so hard to be a morning person, even going to bed with the chickens. I guess it’s just who I am at this point.

6. I often refuse to watch popular TV shows because everyone else is watching them.
Call it a little bit of rebellion, but sometimes I just don’t want to follow the crowd. If the hot topic on social media is a trending show – I will NOT watch it. When my husband and I are picking out a show to watch it goes a little like “I heard this was good. Wanna start it?” Me: “Not really. I see enough about it on Facebook already. I don’t want any more of it in my brain.”

7. Breakfast is my favorite meal… even though I rarely eat it.
I love breakfast foods – pancakes, waffles, eggs – but ironically, I never eat it. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember, and now two out of my three children are the same way. My mother blames it on not being a morning person (see #5). Maybe that’s the truth because the only thing I can manage to think of when I wake up is “coffee, must. find. coffee.” But if you wanna make my day, bring me some biscuits and gravy for lunch, or some loaded cheese grits for dinner. I’ll probably even dance a jig for ya.

8. I’ve traveled more miles in an 18-wheeler than I can count.
That’s not saying much, if we are being honest. I’ve never been big on traveling. I am a true home body. I want to be at home, in my own bed, with my own pillow, in my comfort zone. However, my father is an owner-operator and my husband and I own a couple of trucks too. Between being a trucker’s daughter and marrying an entrepreneur, I’ve seen many miles through the windshield of an 18-wheeler.

9. I love a good party
I don’t mean some wild college party. I mean those family-fun, activity-filled, memory building parties. The ones meant to celebrate life and growth. Birthday parties, graduation parties, baby showers… I think they’re all worth celebrating, and I think a party is the best way to celebrate. If there is a milestone happening in the life of someone I love – I’m gonna throw them a party.

10. I believe in quality over quantity
This goes for so much in life, and I try to apply it to every aspect. Friends. Vehicles. Vacations. Tupperware. Photographs. Even bath towels. I would rather have one or two REALLY good, really high-quality items, over a million cheap things. I’m big on “have less now, so you can have more later”. I’m not the one who loves clutter. I’m the one who wants less things, that can bring about better experiences and memories.

That’s it for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading a little about me! I hope you stick around for a bit and let me know if we have anything in common. I can’t wait to get to know you, and to help you celebrate your growing family with a personalized photoshoot.
